Spreading the gospel among the neighborhoods and nations of the world
To be honest, when I first watched this video I thought, "Hmm...seems a little dramatic." But then, I was checked by the Holy Spirit. It should be dramatic, maybe more so.
The spread of the gospel, to all neighborhoods and nations, is the primary plot line of the unfolding story of the universe. It is the drama of all dramas and one in which you and I get to play a role. Jesus said it this way:
And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Mt 24:14)
Every follower of Jesus is called by God to be involved in his mission of seeking and saving the lost (Lk 19:10) around the globe, beginning at home. It is easy to think of mission as something that happens overseas, while neglecting the spiritual brokenness that surrounds us right here at home. At the same time, it is just as easy to emphasize the local mission in such a way that the global mission is neglected. The Bible upholds them both - our neighborhoods and the nations - so should we.
Not everyone is called by God to serve as a missionary among the nations, but every follower of Jesus is sent as an ambassador among his neighborhood and workplace. Every follower of Jesus should be deeply and passionately embedded into the life and mission of a local church. Every follower of Jesus should be praying for the lost. Every follower of Jesus should be financially contributing to the forward progress of the gospel.
What role is Jesus calling you to play? Who has Jesus sent you to?
